“The Rose Monastery of Al-Deir”
The Rose City of Petra dates back to the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt. (1550 – 1292 BC) The city remained secret until 1812 upon discovery by the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burchhardt. Petra flourished as a caravan trade route until 363 BC when the city was destroyed by an earthquake. The Rose City is a tourist attraction because of T. E Lawrence but many of the ancient structures are threatened by salt, erosion and floods.
